Smiles Behind the Mask

Our library is open again! Yesterday I picked out a stack of books and a few DVDs. When I went to the desk to check out, the librarian commented on my stack. “Ah.looks like you are catching up on reading.”

And I responded, “Actually I had a couple thicks books on my shelf that I planned to read someday. And someday arrived. But I am so glad that the library is open again.”

She chuckled and I could imagine the grin on her face. I had to imagine because we were both wearing masks.

In this age of mask wearing our smiles must come with the words we speak. We have opportunities to share cheerful thoughts with cashiers, waiters, waitresses and postal workers.

I am thankful that my neighbor and I can share smiles and gardening tips over the back fence. We don’t need to wear masks in our backyards.

Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body. Proverbs 16:24

  1. My library has been open for a few weeks now – and what a blessing. Patrons can place their “order” online, and either pick them up at the front desk or call for curbside service. I love their adaptablity and what a blessing the local library is to me!

  2. One of my neighbours is shielding and we around her are the only ones she see. A smile goes so far. Totally blessed by my garden and that we do not need masks in them x FMF #14

  3. I’m an avid reader on my Kindle – so the library isn’t a thing for me. But I have a friend who waited for hers to unlock those doors! #5 FMF

  4. I’ve been trying to smile and chat more with my neighbors, but I fear it is not well received. I recently cut back so very overgrown trees, and my neighbor immediately put up an umbrella to separate our yards. Ha ha. Oh well, I will keep trying when I see her in the front yard.
