New Life in a Broken World

In the weeks preparing to visit our new grandson I spent evenings knitting—first a blanket and then a lovey.

Knitting is a calming activity. It requires me to stay focused on counting stitches while following a pattern.

In the heavy season of worldwide troubles, my mind rests while I knit.

During the past couple weeks my husband and I had lots of time with our little grandson. We held him. We talked to him, introducing words, and watched his many facial expressions.

As we celebrated new life in our family, we saw the agonizing pictures of the maternity hospital that was bombed in Ukraine. We live in a broken world—yet God is the author of life. We can’t make sense of the suffering. We know God loves us because He sent Jesus.

Jesus has asked us to love each other well.

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.” John 13:34
