Faith and Resilience in the New Year

In this new year, my husband and I have begun a plan to read through the Bible in one year. Reading through Genesis we have come across Enoch and Noah. The text informs that both men walked with God. The phrase has stuck in my thoughts. What does it mean to walk with God?

We live in a time when war and disaster are present. I need to diligently seek God through prayer and be obedient to God’s instruction. Jesus said, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Matthew 22: 37-39

We need wisdom because there are so many distractions and distortion of truth in our culture. We need courage, compassion and strength when encountering illness ourself or supporting a family member or friend.

The Bible provides the comfort of knowing that Jesus prays for us. Jesus said, For I have given them the words that you gave me, and they have received them and have come to know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me. I am praying for them. I am not praying for the world but for those whom you have given me, for they are yours. John 17: 8-9

Jesus taught about the blessing of walking with God during his sermon on the mount. Among the blessings: “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.” Matthew 5: 6

  1. makes me wonder if we are doing the same read through the bible thing as I just listened to the story of Noah and Enoch this morning. 🙂 I am desiring more to be a woman who walks with God wisely. Not always the easiest thing to do though…

  2. Hello Carol, I’m excited to read through the Bible in a year as well, and there are so many lovely stories in Genesis. Thanks for sharing.
