The Psalms

The Book for Our Time

On Wednesdays I meet with several women on zoom. We are studying the Psalms, reading a few during the week and meditating on them. We meet to discuss each Psalm and then spend time praying together.

The Psalms tell the story of human life. There is joy and sorrow, conflict and peace, despair and hope. There is lament, confession of sin, cries to God, and trust in God’s steadfast love. There is recognition of answered prayer, praise and thanksgiving.

In the book of Isaiah, we are pointed to God’s plan.

It shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the house of the LORD
shall be established as the highest of the mountains,and shall be lifted up above the hills; and all the nations shall flow to it,
and many peoples shall come, and say:

“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob,
that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths.”
For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the L
ORD from Jerusalem.

He shall judge between the nations, and shall decide disputes for many peoples;
and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks;
nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore
.

Isaiah 2:2-4

When my son was very ill, he found comfort in the promise given in the book of Revelation.

And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” Revelation 21: 3-4

With God’s word we have a steadfast hope!
