As I listened to the band play the song for each branch of the army, I thought of my Dad. He had been a co-pilot during WWII, carrying out missions over Europe. He didn’t talk about it much until late in life.
My son-in-law was playing the trumpet in a community band on the 4th of July. We enjoyed a lovely concert.
We were sitting in a park, my husband, daughter and grandchildren. It was a beautiful evening and the music continued. We heard America the Beautiful, God Bless America, 76 Trombones and many more tunes.
After the sunset the fireworks began. The grandchildren had light up strips that they formed into necklaces, bracelets and anklets. Families filled up the park lawn. It was a joyful evening.
I am thankful for our country and the founding fathers. There were 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence. Only a few are well known. I found the biography of John Witherspoon to be interesting and inspiring.
There were 39 signers of the Constitution that has guided our country for over 200 years.
The first complete English Bible printed in America (1782) was approved by Congress following Robert Aiken’s letter to Congress. Here is part of his letter:
