The weather has warmed and the trees are in blossom. The robins and cardinals visit my yard, while the rabbits munch on grass. The squirrels are busy doing acrobatic exercises in the trees and on the fences.
While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease. Genesis 8:22
The time of planting has begun! I have tomato seedlings. Last year I saved the seeds from heirloom tomatoes. In April, I planted them in little peat pots. Once they begin to grow and have true leaves above the first two, I repot them, pinching of those first leaves and placing that part of the stem under soil—it will help with further root development.
I have planted some wild strawberries from seed. They are delicate little plants.
I watch my garden beds after they are sown, and think how one of God’s exquisite miracles is going on beneath the dark earth out of sight. I never forget my planted seeds. Celia Thaxter
As I surveyed my yard, I was pleased to see that the Bells of Ireland (green stalks with bell shaped flowers) was growing from seeds it had dropped last summer.
The tulips are blooming and the peonies will follow.
