My freezer is full to capacity. The cherries, currants, gooseberries and raspberries have been abundant this year. The raspberry bushes are still producing berries—I have been picking every day for the past week and shared some with my neighbor.
A couple days ago I had a surprising encounter among the raspberry bushes. I saw a little black and white bird that seemed to be frozen at the base of a bush. As I walked a little further, I saw another perched on a branch of a raspberry bush. Then I became aware of a persistent “dee, dee, dee, dee” sound. I looked up and a mother bird was tweeting her heart out, urgently calling to her chicks.
The little chickadee on the bush tried out his wings and flew at my leg attaching himself to my sweat pants. I stood still, wondering what to do. The little bird let go and flew a few further paces. I left the area to allow the mother bird to shepherd her chicks.
God has placed a strong impulse in creatures to protect and shepherd their young. Perhaps, a lesson for us.

I LOVE the image of the baby bird attaching itself to your pant leg. Thanks so much for sharing this!
The little bird mistook me for a tree.
Aww, what a sweet moment. Thanks for sharing it with us.
P.S. Beautiful shot of the bird in the bush.
My time in the garden is a blessing (and also focused exercise). So many ways to notice nature created by God.
I really enjoyed your post, I enjoyed reading about your garden, and about the birds. So lovely.
The encounter with the chickadees was a delight. Thanks for visiting!
