Northern Finland is above the Artic Circle. During the summer, the sun never sets, skimming the horizon at night. The growing season is short, but the hours of sunlight are long. Wild flowers and berries flourish.

My husband and I visited Finland during the summer and experienced the amazing hours of daylight. We attended a family reunion in the village where my grandmother grew up.
Finland is a land of rivers, lakes and forests. Reindeer thrive in Finland. We saw one in a meadow and were startled to see a group wander into a plaza of shops.

Finland is known as the Land of the Midnight Sun. It has been ranked as the happiest country in the world for the eighth year in a row!

My Arctic Circle experience (in Bødø) was very different, but I was young.
I went up to the Arctic,
past the circle of such fame
that I could with mates partake
of string drink and stronger shame
beneath far Norway’s midnight sun
where the strongest pilsner flows.
It was really lots of fun
and for some days bars didn’t close,
but fell things must come to pass
and hangover time arrived
to find me kneeling in the grass
puking out the last of pride,
every foaming nasty drop;
Norway chicks laughed, and couldn’t stop
