The Opposite Way

On Fridays, Kate gives a prompt for Five Minute Friday. We write for five minutes—and sometimes a little more. Today’s prompt is: OPPOSITE

We are home now, after two and one-half weeks of traveling. We visited our son’s family in Albuquerque (two grandchildren) and our daughter’s family in Wichita (three grandchildren).

In Albuquerque we celebrated our granddaughter’s first birthday. We cared for our grandson and granddaughter a couple of days while their parents worked. Because it was so hot, we chose to go to the park first thing in the morning.

We got out the strollers and headed to the park we had been to many times before. We reached the end of the block and were about to turn left when our three-year-old grandson called out, “Go the other way.”

“What do you mean?” I asked.

He pointed to the right. He wanted us to turn right instead of left. He said, “There is another park. I want to go to that one.”

I looked at my husband. “Shall we? Maybe we will just have a long walk.”

There was another park with more features. The children climbed out of the strollers eagerly. My granddaughter took my hand as she followed her brother up the stairs to a small slide and a platform. She was content to shake silver tubes that clanged while her brother explored the equipment.

Grandchildren are the crown of the aged, and the glory of children is their fathers. Proverbs 17:6

    1. They are a blessing–and stretch us a bit. In Wichita we helped with a new puppy, and Dan was helping with computer issues. Have a great weekend!
