Over the summer I have been reading the Psalms. I have noticed several themes. In a majority of Psalms, God’s steadfast love is mentioned. When great difficulties occur, the psalmist cries out to the Lord for help. The Psalms acknowledge that God is sovereign.
This morning I was reading Psalm 60 and I thought about the evil event that took place in Minnesota.
You have made your people see hard things; you have given us wine to drink that made us stagger. Psalm 60:3
We should pray for the families whose children died. We should pray for the families who suffered wounds. Pray for healing. Pray that God’s love would surround and comfort them. And then pray for God’s help.
There are great problems in our country. The physical and mental health of children is a big concern. I believe that we need to cry out to God for his help and wisdom. We need to pray for our leaders in government and health care.
Both chronic illness and depression are on the increase among children. Gender dysphoria is on the increase. Pray for doctors to search for the root causes. Pray for Robert F. Kennedy jr. as he leads Health and Human Services.
The Psalm continues.
You have set up a banner for those who fear you, that they may flee to it from the bow. Selah That your beloved ones may be delivered, give salvation by your right hand and answer us! Oh, grant us help against the foe, for vain is the salvation of man! Psalm 60:4-5,11
Throughout the Bible we see people turn to God, crying out for help. God hears and answers.
