The roses and cosmos are still in bloom in my yard. One rose has a lovely scent, and I encourage friends and family to sniff it. I enjoy having a vase of flowers in the house, but realize that in a week or a little more, they will fade.
The following verse from the book of Isaiah gives a statement that is true.
The grass withers, the flower fades but the word of our God will stand forever. Isaiah 40:8
The fall season is here and my garden is reaching the end of fruitfulness. But I have a habit that will continue throughout the year. I spend some time each morning reading the Bible. It has a steady influence of peace and joy.
Currently I am studying the book of Ephesians with a group of women. Paul wrote this letter to the church at Ephesus while he was under house arrest in Rome. Yet the letter is full of encouragement and helpful guidance. After reading a section of verses, I am inspired to pray—for my family, for the church and for our country.
