Why Didn’t I Take the Shot?

Our family’s experience with vaccines goes back a number of years. As we struggled with health problems, I prayed for God’s guidance in supporting my children’s health. Here is my story.

Like every mother I have pursued health for my children. They all received childhood vaccines, but were prone to frequent ear infections, gastrointestinal upset and food intolerances. Something that my siblings and I had not experienced as children..

My siblings and I received the polio vaccine, the DT (diphtheria/tetanus vaccine), perhaps 4 shots. My children received 5 doses of the DTP (diphtheria/tetanus/pertussis), 5 doses of oral polio, 3 doses of HIB (haemophilus influenza type B) and 2 doses of the MMR  (measles/mumps/rubella)—10 shots.

While working as a nurse I encountered a group of doctors that were questioning vaccines. I didn’t know what to think of their views.

I heard about Dr. Andrew Wakefield and his study connecting the MMR to gastrointestinal illness. Eventually he had his medical license taken away. I also learned of Dr. Thompson who testified that data from a U.S. study of the MMR had been destroyed.

I began to look for as much information as possible, seeing a connection between the vaccine and the way my twins’ health spiraled down when they were toddlers. I wrote about it.

When my twins were 15 months old, they received the MMR vaccine. In the weeks following the vaccine both toddlers had increasing problems with digestion and stomach pain. Their social development came to a standstill. I was puzzled. Was it the repeated courses of antibiotics prior to the vaccine the cause? Or was it the vaccine? Or was it because they were twins, born by cesarean section? Continue reading here.

Questions loomed in my mind until my daughter’s health took a dramatic turn. She was persuaded to take the hepatitis vaccine as a nursing student. She had expressed uncertainty but the college health service persuaded her to take it. Within a short period of time she developed extreme joint pain and had to withdraw from school.

We spent the next 6 months looking for answers. She saw a doctor who diagnosed lyme disease. Over the following weeks we questioned the treatment plan, and sought a second opinion. Our daughter saw an infectious disease doctor who did additional tests and informed us that she did not have lyme disease. Eventually she was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. It was blessing that she was able to resume her studies with a lighter schedule.

When my youngest son was required to get the hepatitis vaccine for high school, I was able to get a medical exemption for him. He was born before the hepatitis vaccine was recommended for infants (thank goodness!).

The hepatitis vaccine was developed for persons with HIV infections. Hepatitis is transmitted through blood, contaminated needles and body fluids. It is costly to develop a vaccine for a small population group. Why not include it infant vaccines even though they are not at risk? There was never a vaccine safety trial for infants. We have learned over time that the vaccine wears off before a child reaches adolescence.

When covid-19 erupted I was frightened like most people. What should we do? I listened to experts in the field of virology and vaccines—Dr. Michael Yeadon, Geert Van den Bossche and others. I saw the protocol that Dr. Zelensky had found successful.

My husband and I made the decision to take the following supplements as a prophylactic: vitamin D3, vitamin C, zinc and quercetin. We also were able to get ivermectin to have on hand if needed through telemedicine.

Eventually we both did get covid (March 2022). We took the ivermectin as prescribed. It was five days of mild illness with no lingering symptoms. It is okay to question vaccines and choose an alternate course to support health.

Since 1986 the number of recommended vaccines has increased dramatically. On the CDC schedule 20 shots for 8 different illnesses plus oral polio are recommended for a baby by the time they are 18 MONTHS old!

In 1986 congress voted to remove all liability from the pharmaceuticals making vaccines. It has been a tremendous opportunity for financial gain for these companies. The pharmaceuticals can make a product that is to be given to all children by recommendation of the CDC (no marketing necessary) and no concern about liability (or the safety of the vaccines).

The term, anti-vaxxer, is a slur and fails to understand the experiences of people that are invested in protecting the health of their family.

Additional note: The High Wire has been funding lawsuits regarding the safety of childhood vaccines. An expert on vaccine trials was deposed by Aaron Siri, legal counsel for the High Wire. The deposition focused on the safety of the MMR vaccine. Was the trial designed to capture side effects and longterm consequences of the vaccine? How long did the trial last? Watch the deposition here.
