A Path of Life and Light

Life on earth is an adventure. We experience both joy and sorrow. Sometimes we encounter very difficult challenges—illness within the family, loss of a job, tragedies caused by extreme weather, death of a loved one.

My brother’s illness was a crisis in my family. He was diagnosed with schizophrenia when I was in college. Some years later my son was diagnosed with leukemia.  In hard times we can seek out help from God’s word.

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Psalm 119:105

In the gospel of John, Jesus is described as the Word and the light of men. Jesus experienced human life on earth and knows the pain we encounter. He hears our prayers. He lays out the way to walk with him as recorded in the gospels.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:1-5

Before Jesus’ time on earth, David experienced the care of the Lord. He describes the Lord’s care for his people. We only need to believe.

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.  He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.

He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Psalm 23:1-3
