The Bible tells the story of women who had great influence: Sarah who was the mother of Isaac, Deborah who was a judge for Israel, Esther who was queen of Persia, Mary who was the mother of Jesus, Priscilla who, along with her husband, assisted Paul in the early church.
There were other women of surprising influence. The book of Matthew records four women in the genealogy of Jesus. The could not have known the legacy that they would have.
Four women cited in Bible records
Four foreign women marked by human hurts
Tamar, widow of Canaan was alone, childless,
disregarded; she became mother of twins.
Rahab of Jericho, a well-known harlot,
hid the Hebrew spies and joined the tribes of Israel.
Ruth married Mahlon in Moab. When he died
she stayed with Naomi. They went to Bethlehem.
Bathsheba was taken from the Hittite,
and made queen by David. Her son was Solomon.
Four women in the Messiah’s bloodline
Four women listed in the first gospel
It can surprise us, the people that God choses to work through. God knows the heart of each person. The best legacy is faith in the Lord God and obedience to his word.
Kate’s prompt for the Five Minute Friday writing community is: LEGACY

Interesting take on this week’s prompt.
I liked “It can surprise us, the people that God choses to work through.”
Women leave a lot for us,
a bright and shining legacy,
but men throw them beneath the bus
because we just don’t want to see
past the ego and the pride,
past chest-thumping foolishness,
and thus deficient, try to hide,
demeaning those who wear a dress.
I’d like to say that I’m immune,
but that would be a coward’s lie.
Usually, I’m quite in tune
with the put-downs as they fly
toward those who have so long bore
our very worst, deserving more.
Thought provoking. Thank you. Tish
