Children’s Health: An ACIP Meeting

Over the years I have worked hard to support the health of my children. I have seen the side effect of a vaccine, so I continue to follow the news regarding vaccine safety. I pray for the health of children growing up now.

Yesterday the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices met to make a decision regarding the hepatis B vaccine. Currently it is being given to infants in the first 24 hours of life.

Topics of discussion included: the risks of an infant being exposed to and then infected by hepatitis B. The virus is spread through blood or body fluids (sexual intimacy, contaminated needles by drug users, exposure to infected blood).

Standard health care practice includes testing women prenatally for the hepatitis B virus. In my work as a labor and delivery nurse over many years, I encountered only one woman who tested positive for hepatitis B. She was Asian. Her infant was treated.

Another topic of discussion included the safety of the vaccine. The only safety test involved observing 154 infants for 5 days. The follow-up is too scarce to be informative.

I am glad that my children were born before this vaccine was added to the schedule. My youngest child was required to get it for school, but I wrote a religious exemption that was accepted.

Why is the hepatitis B required for school? The committee addressed horizontal transmission of the virus. There is no documentation of horizontal transmission of hepatitis B in the school setting.

My daughter did not receive the vaccine as a child but was strongly advised (pushed by the college health clinic) to get this vaccine because she was in the nursing program. Within weeks she developed severe joint pain and had to take a semester off school.

The National Vaccine information center has a page discussing hepatitis B and the vaccine.

The ingredients in vaccines can be found here.

The Physicians for Informed Consent have published a book that provides clear information for health care workers and parents, Vaccines and the Diseases They Target.

  1. Carol,, this is great information. Thanks so much for sharing it here with Sweet Tea & Friends this month dear friend. I’m so happy you’re here.
Merry Christmas to you and your family.

    1. Paula, thank you! I listened to an interview on https://thehighwire.com yesterday. There are now 12 research studies that all show unvaccinated children are healthier than the vaccinated. We don’t know the cumulative effect of giving all the vaccines on the CDC schedule. Each one has excipients like aluminum, mercury, DNA fragments.
