Fear, Hype and the Zika Virus

    August 10, 2016 - By Carol

If you look up fear in a Bible concordance you will find hundreds of     entries. Mentions of fear can be divided into two categories: things we should not fear and the instruction to fear God. Recently the zika virus has been in the news. Photos of babies born…

Favorite Gluten-free Muffins (and they are easy to make!)

    July 25, 2016 - By Carol

Why are so many people choosing to eat gluten-free? What is the problem with gluten? People with celiac disease experience a change in the intestinal lining as their body tries to digest gluten. Other people have a gluten sensitivity. A number of theories suggest the reason for the increasing number…

    Seeking Truth with Prayer

    July 21, 2016 - By Carol

Each day, as I listen to the news I am deeply saddened. What is happening in our country? The reports of violence and death shake our sense of security. I think about my grandchildren and the world they are growing up in. Social issues and politics have become so divisive.…

Decision Was a Sad Day for Women’s Health

    July 5, 2016 - By Carol

This letter was first published on the editorial page of the Daily Herald on July 3.  I was sorting through my thoughts about the Supreme Court decision when I wrote this: Is it a victory for women? The Supreme Court overturned a Texas law that would have required safety regulations…

VAXXED: 4 Actions to Improve Vaccine Safety

    May 31, 2016 - By Carol

The destruction of data by the CDC is a huge news story but the major networks on TV are not covering it. I learned about the documentary, VAXXED on social media.  I read that the Huffington Post censored an   article about the movie. I wanted to see it myself.…

Why does the U.S. Give More Vaccines than Other Nations?

    May 24, 2016 - By Carol

The topic of vaccines is controversial. I have read through some of the research and followed the issue.  My daughter had varying degrees of   reaction to the vaccines she received as a child, and after one final     vaccine developed fibromyalgia.   From my perspective, there is good…

The Passionate Work of Lilias Trotter and Margaret Sanger

    April 14, 2016 - By Carol

Recently I completed reading books about two women that demonstrated different kinds of passion. I have read the Autobiography of Margaret Sanger, followed by A Passion for the Impossible: The Life of Lilias Trotter. The lives of these two women had some similarities and some great contrasts. Both women came…

    Periods, Pills and Home Birth

    April 5, 2016 - By Carol

Some of the common practices in our culture are worth questioning. As a nurse I like to keep track of health news. I am a firm believer in women learning about their bodies in order to pursue health. I have collected some articles related to women’s health. Verily magazine published…

4 Reasons to be Concerned About the HHS Mandate

    February 23, 2016 - By Carol

On March 23rd the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments regarding the HHS Mandate and the Little Sisters of the Poor.    The federal     government is arguing that the Little Sisters must comply with this mandate in the health insurance that they provide for the people they employ.…

    Midwife Care versus Planned Parenthood

    February 10, 2016 - By Carol

Two questions that are facing our nation and our state  could  be    connected. Should our tax dollars go to Planned Parenthood?  Will   Illinois certify Professional Midwives (CPMs) to provide home birth care? A number of states do recognize CPMs, but not all. In some states they can bill…

Welcome to my blog!

As I write, I give thanks for God’s design of the family and the gift of His word, the Bible.

It gives me joy to be a woman, a wife, a mother and grandmother. For many years I was a childbirth nurse, assisting mothers and their babies.
