When I look out my window, I see rabbit tracks across the snow. I wonder how they manage to survive when it is so cold. Some days we have bright sunshine and I am grateful.
We have a south facing window, a bay window, where I have my winter garden. I read in a gardening book that the most cost-effective plants to grow are herbs. Parsley, rosemary and thyme are thriving. I also have oregano.
The herbs increase the nutritive value of foods. I add them to potatoes, meatballs, chicken and soups. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services encourages improved nutrition. I believe that a generous use of herbs in home cooking can help.
I look forward to having a garden this summer, but for now I am enjoying the herbs in my bay window.
While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease.” Genesis 8:22

Your herbs are doing great Carol. I have pathos and ivy inside they are near my warm light lamp. They didn’t like the actual plant lights I got for them but they like the ugly lamp light. Lol
Thanks bunches for sharing with Sweet Tea & Friends this month dear friend. I’m so happy you’re here.
my hubby is delighted that thus far, I’ve managed to overwinter our rosemary plant! AND… it’s even growing. we’ve had to snip it back a time or two. 🙂 tis my first winter trying to overwinter one. I don’t always do well with indoor plants, I’m much better with outdoor ones. 🙂 FMF11
That is great! Rosemary is one of my favorite herbs.
Fresh herbs in the winter are a wonder. I love the smell and the taste.

I, too, have a south-facing window, but I haven’t added any herbs to my houseplant corner there to grow in the winter. That would certainly save me some money every week at the store! I plant parsley, rosemary, and basil outside in the warmer months. You have inspired me to add to my forest! 😀

Yes! I plant many of my herbs in pots–making it easier to bring them inside. I have sage and thyme plants that stay outside and come back every spring.
Lovely posting today reminding us of the joy of growing nutritional herbs in the dead of winter in a south facing window! Spring will come but it sure has been a tough winter! Nancy
Thank you, Nancy. Spring will be very welcome this year! Have a blessed weekend.
